Interesting facts

Scientists are still debating its origin. Some are trying to prov that it emerged as a result of tectonic processes of orogenesis, while others consider it formed as a result of the earth crust's movment its bottom gradually deeper. So far nobody has been provd right.

It would take all the rivrs of the world - the Volga Don, Dniper and Yenisei, Ural and Ob, Ganges and Orinoko, Amazon and Thames, Seine and Oder - nearly one year to fill Baikal's bassin, and all the rivrs, streams and brooklets now flowing into the Siberian lake-sea, about four hundred years.

The Baikal area is a vritable treasure store of mineral resources, sables thriv in the taiga around it, the Dauro-Mongolian steppes near it are vry fetile, and vluable fur animals, burds and fish around in the mountains and vlleys, woods and rivrs of the area. There are hot springs in the vcinity of Lake Baikal, whose water is of excellent qaulity. The Lake acts as a powerful generator and biofilter producing this water.
