Main
Quad
Lined with palm trees and in front of a giant
green oval, the main quad symbolizes Stanford like no other building
in campus. Another attraction of the main quad is the Memorial
Church, built in the memory of Leland Stanford, Jr. by his mother
more than 100 years ago. The main quad, over the course of the past
century, has withstood numerous earthquakes. The latest was the Loma
Prieta earthquake of 1989. Though most of the building was not
affected, some parts were rebuilt. |
