I interned at Octel Communications
for four summers, and I credit the people there with getting me started
in the software industry. Octel has since been acquired by
Lucent Technologies, but the
Octel part of Lucent remains at the same campus in the
Silicon Valley.

| Trilogy Development Group was my first taste of the start-up lifestyle, although at the time it was probably already too big to be called a start-up. Also at this time, the Human-Computer Interaction concentration in computer science had just been established at Stanford. So, I was impressed that Trilogy understood the importance of this field and had created a separate internal group to work with user interface issues. Trilogy is located in Austin, Texas, and the two things that I remember most about the area is that there aren't any mosquitos (something about the bat population) and the water at the lake is warm. (Okay, that's coming from a Californian that's used to having freezing cold ocean water in the summer) |
