Ram Vemuri

Masters student in Computer Science at Stanford University

My Intro

I'm a Masters student in Computer Science at Stanford University. I come from Secunderabad (pronounced approximately Sik-under-abaadh) in India. Its the smaller part of the twin cities of Hyderabad (hydher-abaadh) and Secunderabad and among the best places to live in South India. Click here for more information about Hyderabad.

I graduated me from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. They probably had enough of me, because for some reason, they actually graduated me. There's a home page for Godavari Hostel, the most fearsome election campaign place, thanks to us. There is also a home page for the Godav Class of 95.

I like to travel and I enjoy adventure sports. My current passion is skiing. I am trying to go skiing at least once a fortnight, but work is a constraint. I used to rollerblade before Student Housing moved me to 41C, EV, where the roads don't take very kindly to rollerblades.

This quarter, I'm a teaching assistant for CS244a : Computer Networks. An engineer shouldn't be bogged down in technology and ignore the bottom line. Everyone should learn about marketing, finance, management and other such things along with their engineering courses. To this end, I recommend IE269 : Marketing for Technology Companies, and IE273 : Technology Entrepreneurship.

Since Stanford is kicking me out with a degree at the end of March, I've started looking for a job. My Resume

Friends

These are the people who are near and dear to my heart AND have homepages on the internet. And of course, the list is in no particular order.

Shirin, Zheng, Annabel, Mahesh, Vega, Mayank, Boga, Pankaj, Bumba, Nitro, Ramakant

Forever a veggie

I'm a vegetarian by birth. I don't have anything against non-vegetarians. And for those of you who want to try being vegetarian, there's lots of stuff out there.

Visionary Companies

The Best Newspapers

Well, you can get pointcast and inbox-direct and all that, but I will still go to these people for my news.

Automobiles

I try to drive as little as possible to conserve fuel. I have a ten year old accord stick shift. Its not the latest and the greatest but it can rev pretty aggressively when needed, and it gives 28-30mpg most of the time. Someday I hope to own either a beemer, or a corvette or one of those big motorcycles, but I don't see it happening in the near future. Lastly, for the record, I'm a manual transmission bigot.

Cool courses at Stanford (in numerical order)

Camping and Travel

To be added soon. Photographs from National Parks and such like.

Entertainment

Any active outdoor sport is good enough entertainment for me. I try to read novels every once in a while but it just takes so long to read each one. I also read classics, like those by Shakespeare, G B Shaw etc, and poetry. Love watching movies as well, mostly on video; and NBCs Must See TV.
