Joshua Tree National Park is located in southern California. I entered the park at the Southern entrance off I10 (about 40 miles east of Palm Springs), at the Cottonwood Visitor Center. I began my hike at the Porcupine Wash backcountry board, about 12 miles up the road from the visitor center.
