Anderson Description =========== FlickerFixDA is a "desk accessory" that fixes the flicker when running certain grayscale programs under PalmOS 3.1.1. It works by allowing you to easily switch between two modes of operation: flickerFree (but streaky), and streakFree (but flickery). BTW: flickerFree was the mode that PalmOS 3.1 ran under by default, streakFree is the mode that PalmOS 3.1.1 runs under by default. Usage ===== Each time you active the DA, it toggles between the two modes. Use a DA launcher to activate the DA. DA launchers ============ To find out more about DA launchers, here are some web pages: Swipe (a nice, free DA launcher): A page w/ information about DAs in general: Related products ================ StreakHack by Neal Bridges (http://www.interlog.com/~nbridges/) automates this task--switching between flickerFree and streakFree modes automatically, but does so at a cost (because it's constantly checking, it takes up a little more CPU time). StreakHack is also $5.00 shareware (instead of public domain). Note: the way things are turning out, this is my second program that "competes" in some sense with something written by Neal Bridges. This release is not intended to be a slam against shareware in general or Neal Bridges in particular. I think shareware is great and advocate paying for it if you use it. Looking at Neal Bridges page, he has some other cool programs. I invite you to visit there. Requirements ============ * A Palm IIIx or Palm V * Approximately 168 bytes available memory. * Some way to launch DAs (see above). Installation ============ Just install FlickerFixDA like any other program. Then, configure your DA launcher to use it. Each time you run the program, it will flip between flickerFree and streakFree modes. Legal Junk & Distribution ========================= This program and its source code are in the public domain. Enjoy. If you're happy with this program, feel free to e-mail me. Note: although I don't anticipate any trouble I should say that I take no responsibility for any actions this program takes. Contact Info ============ Probably the easiest way to contact me is via e-mail. However, I always appreciate getting real mail... e-mail: dianders AT cs.stanford.edu address: Doug Anderson 1065 16th Ave. Redwood City, CA 94063 web: ...hope to hear from you.
